Come Celebrate St. Barbara’s Day (In Person)!

As we look forward to celebrating with our colleagues at this year’s St. Barbara’s Day luncheon, we are very excited to be honoring Laura Beverage, a longtime CMA Board member and former Chair. Laura is very active in mining organizations and is recognized for her expertise in health and safety law. We know that Laura commands the respect and admiration from mining leaders throughout the country. Honoring Laura, a health and safety legal expert, is timely as we feel fortunate to begin to re-engage on an in-person basis in industry and business activities. Last year, Regis University Humanities Professor Dennis Gallagher, a former legislator and Denver City Auditor and City Councilman, provided a holiday video greeting telling the story of St. Barbara, which you can view here.

We’re constantly examining the way we conduct our meetings and events to meet members’ needs. For example, based on feedback from our Government Affairs Committee (which meets weekly), we will continue to meet virtually as many committee members working at the state Capitol found online meetings saved them valuable time in getting back to the state Capitol. CMA’s Board meet in person for the first time this week, and yet offering the option for board members to participate virtually allows more meaningful participation by members not able to travel to Denver. We’ll continue to meet virtually with our other committees primarily because we still believe social distancing is appropriate and we don’t have the space necessary to meet in person. In addition, other organizations, including state regulatory agencies still prefer to participate virtually. We are pleased to be able to participate in other organization’s events, including attending the National Mining Hall of Fame Inductee Dinner last month at which Newmont Mining Corporation’s retired CEO Gary Goldberg was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Congratulations Gary!

Perhaps the most enjoyable aspect of catching up with members in person is the opportunity to finally present awards to CMA members who received recognition the past two years for reclamation, safety, and environmental stewardship.

Finally, we’re looking forward to presenting awards, educational presentations, and networking opportunities to members at the 124th National Western Mining Conference & Exhibition in Grand Junction. We’re looking forward to seeing CMA members on June 8-10, 2022, and we hope you join us.
