Coal, Hardrock, and Uranium committee update

April 21, 2020

DRMS Update:
Ginny Brannon began the update the Committee by describing the manner the Division is conducting its business remotely. Russ Means reported that the Hardrock rulemaking process is moving slower than anticipated. Jim Stark reported that the Mined Land Reclamation Board will take up the Division’s proposed coal rules implementing federal requirements. CMA stated that it would testify in support of the rules at the Board’s remote meeting.

Legislative Report:
Dianna Orf presented the legislative report stating the General Assembly will reconvene May 18 and the Joint Budget Committee will begin meeting that the week before to prepare the budget bill. What the legislative schedule looks like going forward is uncertain as legislative leadership has yet to define the kinds of bills it wishes to see debated to respond to the COVID-19 virus.

The May 19 Coal, Hardrock and Uranium Committee meeting will feature a special presentation from the State of Colorado’s Energy Office and Department of Natural Resources covering Colorado’s Climate Roadmap.
