Education Foundation Update: May 2024

The Colorado Mining Association Education Foundation is excited for our summer workshops! We have almost 60 teachers from across the state enrolled in our three courses. They come from rural areas, mining towns and big cities. The teachers encompass the entire gamut of education from pre-kindergarten to seniors in high school along with a college professor. We have also attracted a couple of teachers from the northeast part of the country.

The course to be held at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden (June 3-4, 2024) will include hands-on mineral labs, a tour of the Geology Museum, and presentations by mining professionals. It will also include a tour of the Edgar Mine and Martin Marietta’s Spec Agg Quarry.

The Leadville workshop (June 20–21, 2024) will focus on the history of mining and its improved safety, tours of the Climax Molybdenum Mine and California Gulch Water Treatment Plant, as well as the Matchless Mine.

The STEAM in Mining online course will be held June 6-July 12. This course takes a journey through the mining process and shows how mining impacts our lives today and into the future.
