Had someone told me a year ago that I would be depending on FaceTime and Zoom meeting software to keep in touch with both business and personal colleagues, I would have laughed in their face. Yet, here we are. Thankfully, these platforms work extremely well, and they are some of the best tools available for communicating and exchanging ideas during a global pandemic.
Not knowing what our circumstances would bring in the way of in-person teaching opportunities, our CMAEF board member, Ryan Miles, spearheaded a project to offer a condensed version of All About Mining that would be made available completely online. In the process of building the curriculum we reached out to the Nevada Mining Association, knowing their educational programs were probably in the same predicament. What has resulted is an exciting collaboration between the two associations to create and provide a 16-hour online professional development course aimed at K-12 educators. While we have not yet finalized the content, we expect to be able to offer this course to Colorado and Nevada teachers in the spring of 2021. We plan to continue updating and offering the course, virtually, for the foreseeable future.
And as always, there are many ways you can support our education efforts. There is the traditional way of sending a check or making a wire transfer and there is the simple use of choosing us as your charitable foundation when purchasing from Amazon. All you have to do is choose Colorado Mining Association Education Foundation as your charity when you log onto smile.amazon.com and shop as you would normally; Amazon will award us a small percentage of your purchase with no extra charge to you. We are also participants in “Colorado Gives Day”, due to happen on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. Check out our profile at coloradogives.org.
I am wishing everyone a good and healthy Thanksgiving holiday.
