President’s Message: CMA golf tournament wrap-up

I wanted to take a moment to thank all the players and sponsors of the 2020 CMA Golf Tournament. I say this with an even greater sense of gratitude because this was our first in-person CMA event since the cancellation of the 2020 CMA conference in June.

While we had to adjust the format of the tournament in a way that eliminated the opportunity for the participants to visit before and after golf, Stephanie Shark and I had the opportunity to spend time visiting with our players and enjoyed meeting new friends of the Association. Our conversations with members were especially helpful as we think about the manner CMA can support its members during these difficult times.

Our conversations first reinforced that members are continuously evaluating all aspects of their operations, evaluating expenditures, and looking for ways to cut expenses. At the same time, member companies told us that by changing their business practices such as reducing travel and working virtually, there is a greater need for CMA activities such as limited in-person events, webinars and other activities in which members can engage with other CMA members.

Thank you to our sponsors and those companies that provided items for our shoe gift bags. We’re sure you didn’t miss the knife provided by Custom Linings!

I also want to thank the staff of Legacy Ridge Golf Course. Legacy Ridge has hosted the CMA golf tournament for many years. The staff is outstanding to work with and the course offers a good value. This year, the staff’s expertise really was helpful as the rules for player play changed several times.

Finally, I want to thank Stephanie Shark for organizing this tournament despite the difficulty in knowing how players could participate. It takes an incredible amount of organization and planning to pull off any golf tournament but organizing a tournament with changing public health requirements was a unique challenge.

Thank you again for participating in this modified format. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
